What country was Niederbronn located in 1872?

I'm looking for records on my great grandmother Salome Mathis born in Niederbronn in 1872. We were told she was Alsatian, but one the census records she lists German. Her sister Louisa Charlotte Mathis came over also.Her mother is Charla or Charlotte Staller and her father is Louis Mathis.

In 1872 Niederbronn les Bains was part of the newly formed German Empire.

And it was also Alsace.
So the records if they exist are in France now.
