Tyzac / du Thysac family

by Rosalyn
(Queensland, Australia)

My ancestors were French glass makers, the Tyzac / du Thysac family. They came from Belrupt, Alsace to England in the late 1500s. I would love to hear from anyone also researching this line.

Belrupt
by: Suzele

Hi Rosalyn,

I think Belrupt is not in Alsace.
It appears to be near Verdun which is in Lorraine so you should probably look over there.

Alsace and Lorraine for the most part have very different histories and cultures.

For example, the family name appears to be a French name which is very uncommon in Alsace.

Alsatians don't usually have French last names.

Hope it helps your search!

Du Thysac
by: Lindsay Smith

Think the Thysacs were in the Vosges region of Lorraine where most of their partnered glasshouses were centred. I too descend from Jehan Thysac & Alix Barizey line. The old chateau de Lichecourt was their seat so to speak.

My surname is Tysick. I am a decendant of Du Thysack- from Lorraine. Interested in hearing more of my genealogical history.

I found out today I descend from this glassmaking family. How interesting. I descend from the ones that went to England. I see some materials that say they were Huguenots?

There is a great pdf available in the internet tysack.net which traces the history of the glassmakers. I am descended from Jehan du Thysak via the English connection.

Tyzack family
by: Marie

Hi,I've only just discovered my Tyzack family connection.I am from the northeast where they came to work for I believe Sir Robert Mansell.Sometime between 1614-1620.
My tree starts with William & Samuel Tyzack.Samuel married Deborah Slater 1770 in Jarrow, they lived in South Shields.I am descended from their daughter also named Deborah.
Another branch of my family who eventually married this branch also came to South Shields to work in the glass industry.

Thank you

Thank you to all who answered my message. Yes the Thysacs built and lived in chateau Lichecourt, Vosges, Lorraine.

Please forgive my lack of knowledge of French geography and culture in this area. We speak here of Alsace-Lorraine as one region, not the two that it obviously is.

It is great to hear from other Thysac descendants.
