Sisters with a Vineyard in 1890s Alsace

by Tina

I'm looking for two sisters who owned a vineyard in the late 1890s in Alsace and I'm having trouble finding them.

I know the last name was Zimmer. But all other information in the States is lost to my knowladge.

Zimmer ancestors in 1890s
by: Suzele

Hi Tina,

Do you have an idea of which part of Alsace your ancestors lived in?

There were and still are hundreds of winemakers in Alsace and Zimmer is a common name here.

Zimmer means room in most Germanic languages.

Zimmerman usually means carpenter - or person who can build a room - in the local Alsatian dialect.

In the 1890s there were very few regulations on where you could grow grapes for wine production (compared to now).

Perhaps somewhere there is a family member with a mention of a village or town?

In my Alsace Ancestry Adventure tours, I've noticed that the tiniest bits of info can often lead to much more.

All this to say - I hope you find the right clue that leads you to your Alsace family heritage.

Wishing you luck,
Suzele
