Savier/Xavier

by Diane

Searching for Savier or Xavier family living in Alsace in the 1600's - 1700's. My American ancestor's name, William Saffer of Virginia, recently came up on a dna test as born in France, possibly named Savier or Xavier. Any help would be so appreciated.

Wish I could help
by: Suzele

Hi Diane,

I can't say this surname is familiar to me here in Alsace now.
It doesn't mean it didn't exist in Alsace of course.
But it is useful info ;)

It could be a Lorraine name because it does seem more French.

Or it has a more Germanic origin that has evolved into something that appears French.

Wish I could say more!
Happy hunting,
Suzele

Francis Xavier Stehlin
by: Priscilla Nix Caren

Your post caught my eye as I am researching my Stehlin/Thoman connections to Colmar. My maternal GGF had Xavier as middle name, I have wondered where it came from. Anyone researching these names or connected? Thank you!
