Relative immigrated from Alsace Lorraine to Scotland late 1700.

I have a handwritten account of a relative who lived in Alsace Lorraine and immigrated to Scotland in the late 1700s. I'd like to trace the lineage but can't find even the surname Vannacka. Are there other spellings that are recognized in this area?

Hi Kris,

Just curious, was the letter written by your ancestor?

And did he or she spell their last name Vannacka?

Or was this someone unrelated to the ancestor spelling the name in this way?

It is definitely not a typical spelling for anyone in Alsace.

Although when I say it, it makes me think of other Alsatian names.

Not the way they are spelled but the way they are pronounced in Alsatian dialect.

So maybe, but more information would be helpful if you know anything about it.

Happy hunting!
