Need Help Finding My Alsace Ancestors in France

by Elizabeth
(Ky, USA)

Hi everyone,

My 4th Great Grandparents are Johan Baptiste Neudacher and Anastasia Martin (both born circa 1800) from Alsace, Lorraine, France. They came to America in 1846. I would like to know if there is any info on either of them before they came to America.

Thank you for your time,
Elizabeth

Records
by: Suzele

Hi Elizabeth,

There may very well be records of them in Alsace...or in Lorraine.

The first step is to find out which town or village they are from and the only way to do that is to go through every village and town until you find them.

If you have some other identifying information, it would be a very good idea. Just in case there is more than one person with that same name...which happens...

These names aren't the most common which is good, but there are still 100s of villages to go through.

Good luck : )

How's your Alsace family research going?
by: Suzele

Hi Elizabeth,

I really hope your Alsace genealogy work is moving along and progressing.

I meet so many people with a similar situation.

Names of ancestors and even exact dates for birth or marriage or death (which is great to have, but not the most challenging part of genealogy research over here in Alsace).

But no town or village names.

Just Alsace or Alsace Lorraine as the place.

Maybe you found it in personal family documents or on immigration documents (most common).

It really leaves you a bit stuck.

Because figuring out which town really does take a very long time.

So I'd like to ask you what other info you'd like to know about your Alsace relatives?

If you're at a dead end with the official documents and genealogy, what else are you dying to know about your Alsace family?

I'd like to write more about these subjects on the website, and I'd love your input.

Take care,
Suzele
