My maiden name is Notter, was told my greatgrandparents came from Alsace Lorain, Are there a lot of Notters or similar names?

I was always told that my family is very German on my father's family side, my grandfather was born in 1924 as an american, but his parents are both born in Alsace. Since, he speaks German, and they would that mean they came to this country because of War World 2? Or is it more likely of happened because of the first War World, and now I am curious if I would be considered more French. Have you read anything or know anyone with a last name similar to Notter or Nütter? Thanks.
