Munsch

by Celine Latimer
(USA)

Hi

I am seeking information on a relative of mine, Margarite Munsch, born in 1813. She was married to Chretein Schmitt. He was born in 1807 in Bouxwiller in Northern Alsace.

I'm also looking for info on Jacque Jacobi who came to USA as a 5 year old with Margarite Munsch Schmitt in 1869. He was born in 1864.

If you know anything, please let me know. I really appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Celine

Marriage and Birth Records in Alsace
by: Suzele

Hi Celine,

I would start by getting the marriage record for Chretien Schmitt and Margarite Munsch.

They often mention where the 2 people getting married are from or indirectly refer to things like their parents and witnesses (who were often family members).

Then I would look in Bouxwiller and the surrounding villages for records. Most people met and married someone not too far away.

Sometimes they were from much further away but it's not as common.

Once you know where Margarite was born and where she and Chretien lived in Alsace, you might find out more about any Jacobi family.

It's very interesting this child who went to the US with them.

It wasn't uncommon for unrelated people from the same area to travel together. But that is quite young.

I've heard of teenagers and young adults travelling without their family to the US.

He could be an orphaned nephew or godchild.

There are so many other possibilities too.

Wishing you lots of luck,
Suzele
