Looking for information on Brayer

Michael William Brayer was born on March 28, 1822, in Merlebach, Moselle, France, his father, Nicholas, was 39 and his mother, Margaret, was 36. He married Elizabeth Wackaman on February 17, 1846, in Rochester, New York.

Looking for documents or online sources to validate birth and trace ancestors back further to scotland where we are told Matthias brayer resided possibly as part of a border clan

Great news for your genealogy research

Hi Kari,

You have some great info there!
And you should be able to find it because you have the name of the town and the name of the person.

If those two bits of info are correct, it's just a matter of digging through the records.

Granted the records are written in French and hand written in most cases.

Sometimes they are well written and sometimes it looks like a three year old did it.

Interesting that you think he came to Lorraine from Scotland. That would be an unusual situation, but my specialty is Alsace not Lorraine, so it could be unique or something more linked to Lorraine.

Do you know anything about why your family moved from Scotland to Lorraine and then to New York?

I have my ideas about why the trip to New York happened, but curious about the Scotland part!
