Looking for Info about my Alsatian Ancestors

by Victor
(Puerto Rico)

I'm looking for my ancestors. My dad's family came to Puerto Rico in the 1800's.

First I thought that they came from Corsica, but then my research took me to the Alsace region .

Also DNA research shows matches with the area of western Switzerland and Alsace.

Anyone know where i can find immigration records from Alsace to the Caribbean?

Thank you,
Victor Lamberty M.D.

Alsace family records

Hi Victor,

I can't help you with records in the Carribean or anything connected with the move from Europe to the Carribean.

I imagine your Alsatian ancestor may have come to the US first and then moved his way down to the Carribean.

In the 1800s, to my knowledge, there was a big encentive to acquire less expensive land in the US.

I know there were people promoting Texas land and they would have probably passed through New Orleans.

I'm not aware of anyone promoting "opportunities" in Florida.

And there were many much further north too. But for the Carribean, I'd guess they connected with someone in New Orleans.

Although an Alsatian would be more comfortable dealing with a German immigrant than a French immigrant.

Good luck with your research,
Suzele
