Looking for Great-Great Grandfather Henry (Heinrich) Schabot

I have been able to trace via US Census that he was born in 1859. However, some information I've found says Germany while others say France. I was able to find one document that says he was from Alsace-Lorraine. Any help that can be provided would be appreciated.

Depends on when
by: Suzele

Hi Ryan,

The where depends on the when here in Alsace.

At certain times it was part of the German Empire and at other times it was part of the French kingodm, the French Republic and a few other forms of government of both of these countries.

Also Alsace and Lorraine are two different places.
Alsace would be the easier region because it is smaller if you are doing any needle in a haystack kind of research.

If you have more info about what town or village, all the better and even more important than the when did he live info.

At least for saving time researching.

Happy hunting!
