Looking for a distant grandmother

by Taylor Mullen
(Haddon Heights, New Jersey)

I have a 9th great-grandmother named Anna Woerker. I suspect that the last name could have a different variation. She was married to Thomas Elias Van Court, who was from Guernsey, United Kingdom. The island is off the coast of Normandy, France. All I know is that she was born roughly around 1668, and lived in Lorraine, France. If anyone could help me with my research, I'd appreciate it!

Hi Taylor,

Do you have any other Alsace or Lorraine ancestors related to her anywhere in your family tree?

I will say that it's a very uncommon name. That's a good thing. Common last names make it hard to find the actual real ancestor (because there are so many people with the same last name).

1668 is a very hard date to find records for without more info.

It was before official state records so only church records and the occasional other records might exist.

In most of Lorraine, the records would likely be Catholic. At least you can be almost certain of that.

But those records would be organized under the name of the town or village.

So you'll need that info to find it here - if it survived the last 400+ years.

Wishing you a lot of luck,
Suzele
