I am starting my search for gg grandmother Lisette Dendinger born in May 1831. Married Jacob Ros (sic) circa 1854. They arrived together in NY in 1855 and proceeded to Chicago. Thank you.

Hi Barbara,

I don't have specific info about your ancestors, but I have met some people with the family name ROOS in southern Alsace and more in northern Switzerland.

There's a good chance the ROS name is from Southern Alsace and Switzerland just based on the variations in the Alsatian dialect.

Ross means horse in southern dialect by the way.
