My family name is Leininger, and I have reason to believe that my ancestors came from Alsace. How would I research that? I may be coming to Strasbourg in November.

Hi Chris,

I've seen a number of Leiningers in Alsace.
So you may have to look in many different places.
If you don't have an idea of where in Alsace your family comes from, you have to look everywhere.

Which is not really great news as there are so many villages to look through.

And the records are very badly written so not an easy job even if you read French well.

If you could narrow down the where, you will make the job easier for yourself.
