I am looking for Schmidt Family of Alsace 1700s

My Schmidts came to America in the mid 1700s from Alsace. My ancestor Michael Schmidt or Johan Michael Schmidt was born about 1746-1750. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Shirley,

There are so many Schmidts in the Germanic world!
Alsace has plenty with various spellings.

So you have your work cut out for you.

If you have an idea of where in Alsace, that will make your work easier.

You'll have to go through every village record until you find the right one.

And Johan isn't a rare name either.
