Hiring a Guide or Taxi to Visit the Wine Road

by Keiko
(Osaka, Japan)

We are 60-70 year old ladies, staying at a hotel in Colmar for three nights in October.

We'd like to visit small and beautiful villages around Colmar like Riquewihr or Eguisheim through the Wine Roads.

If we hire a taxi all the day, how much does it cost?

We are 4 people. Can four of us ride in one car?
Or are there lots of tours from colmar visiting the Wine Roads? If there are some, is it easy to take part in one of them without any reservation on the day?

Hiring a Driver Taxi or Guide in Alsace
by: Suzele

Hi Keiko,

I wouldn't recommend hiring a driver or taxi to drive you around in Alsace. Why? Because an experienced guide is about the same price or cheaper than a driver or taxi AND a guide knows much more about Alsace than a driver or taxi.

Of course I'm a little biased there, because I am a tour guide in Alsace. You can see my rates here.

I can't say what the exact price for a driver or taxi is for the day, but I know how much it costs to go to the airport and it's REALLY expensive, so I imagine a taxi or driver could make much more money doing shorter trips.

I wouldn't recommend waiting to the last minute to hire a driver or a guide for a full day. I know that I am often booked up a few weeks in advance at least. Of course it depends on the time of year.

At certain times of year or if your schedule is very limited, I recommend contacting a driver or guide a few months or more in advance to be sure you get first choice in their schedule.

Have a great time,
Suzele
