Help with My Alsace Genealogy Research in France

by Ray Wilderman
(Orangevale,California,USA)

Hi everyone,

I'm interested in the Wildemann family that lived in Alsace and came to America in 1850. My ancestor's name was Heinrich Wildemann.

Thanks for your help,
Ray

More information
by: Suzele

Hi Ray,

That's some useful information but do you have any more info like what village he is from or the general area that he is from?

There are A LOT of villages and towns in Alsace : )

Good luck with your research,
Suzele

How's your Alsace genealogy research going?
by: Suzele

Hi Ray,

Hope you're making progress with your Alsace family genealogy.

That info is extremely useful!

Feldkirch is in southern Alsace. Of course, there could be others (or were other villages with this name). Feldkirch means field church so I can imagine other villages or hamlets may have had this name (and are no longer there).

But in 1850, it's less likely at least. I am so careful to never be too certain of anything with genealogy. Nothing is 100% certain ; )

So your Alsace ancestor was born French!

Of course his name and village location tell me he didn't likely speak French much (unless he was an educated man).

I'd love to know about your family tree progress. And if perchance, you've hit a dead end, I'd still love to hear about what else you'd love to know about your Alsace ancestors.

I study (and love) Alsace history, its cultural traditions and beliefs. And I suspect that you'd like more information (and maybe context) than just some official documents (with valuable but limited info).

Hope all is well,
Suzele
