relatives in Alsace France Halte or Halty
by: Suzele

Hi Theresa,

Have you tried searching the online Alsace archives for your family's name?

You have the village name Hatten. It's not a big place so the records aren't going to be so hard to look through.

The records are organized by year for birth, marriage or death.

And then alphabetically by family name.

So you should be able to go through them year by year even if you don't know the exact year for the birth or marriage or death.

Once you find a record with the right name, you can take your time trying to read it. That will be the hardest part - especially if it's hand-written. Or whatever parts are hand-written. Most of them are written by hand in a weird cursive that's not super easy to read.

But they're so worth it because there is lots of useful info including other names of people, addrsses, and what work they did.

Hatten did have a good bit of damage from wars. so they might have lost some of their archives.

But if they have anything, it's in the online archive for sure.

Halte or Halter or Halten or Helter or some variation, These are Germanic names. Not super common or unheard of. I've never heard of Halti or Halty. Maybe it's Haltig?

Lots of possibilities!

Let me know what you find!
Happy hunting,
Suzele
