More info needed to find your Alsace ancestors
by: Suzele

Hi Fred,

If you'd like to find out more about your Alsace ancestors, you'll need to know which villages they came from.

Here's why:

All the records are organized by village or town.

So to find birth, marriage or death records, they'll be stored under the name of the town or village.

Briard isn't a very common name here in Alsace.

My guess is the Briard branch of your family originally came from another part of France or another French-speaking area.

French last names in Alsace are very VERY uncommon.

If you have any ancestors where you have more information - like a village or town name, the full name of the person and a birth date - you'll have more luck with those ancestors.

I would start there.

Hopefully in your research, you'll find more details that will help you fill in your family tree.

It's very much like a puzzle with a few 100,000 pieces to find.

Each new piece of info helps you find the others.

Hope you enjoy it ;-)
