Hi,

My great grandfather was Peter Keller left Strasbourg in 1881-1882. Looking for any info I can find on him.

Thanks,

Hi Mark,

If your great grandfather left Strasbourg, there's a chance he was born there.

Or somewhere nearby.

There are quite a few villages near Strasbourg, but it does narrow down your search.

Do you have an idea of how old he was when he left and who travelled with him?

That might give you a clue about his age.

And then you can look through about 20 years of birth records for Strasbourg around that time.

Most of the records are digitized now, so you can find them if they weren't destroyed by fire or war.

Hopefully you can find him and his parents and tracing your Alsace family tree back a few hundred years.

What's also interesting is why he left.

There are so many reasons and the more info you have about where he and his parents lived and what they did for a living...

The better your guesses will be.

Those of us who study these things have lots of details that help us make very educated guesses ;-)

Wishing you lots of luck with your research,
Suzele
