Emigration documents from Reipertswiller

I know some areas of Germany and France required residents to request permission to emigrate to the another country like the US. I was wondering if it was the same in Alsace, particularly the area where Reipertswiller is located? Is so, how would one go about locating those records?

As a rule it was a requirement, but lots of people didn't bother with it.

I've read many accountings of family who emigrated and in the accounts they acknowledged that they should do that but didn't.

Usually just because of the hassle.

Alsatians usually spoke a germanic dialect and weren't fully fluent in French when Alsace was part of the France in the past.

Now it would still be a hassle but a much smaller one! And no language issues nowadays.

You might have luck with the Alsace archives in Strasbourg. I'd start there.

Wishing you lots of luck with your search,
Suzele
