Dirig Family from Hagenthal-le-Haut

I am trying to trace the Dirig family from Hagenthal-le-Haut from the late 1790s to 1832. Does anyone know where I would find baptismal records for this time period? I have seen some civil records at the French archives but I want to find the baptismal records.

Baptismal records

From what I know, the Hagenthal le Haut records are part of the Hagenthal le Bas records.

It was the same diocese.

You might find some here:

Something to know about the Revolutionary period in France - which included Alsace at the time...

Most of the Catholic priests refused to swear allegiance to the new nation coming into being during this time.

And so they were not allowed to keep their positions. They were replaced with priests who would swear allegiance.

Most Catholics in Alsace weren't pleased with this situation and they might have chosen to not do official baptisms during this time.

They might have done unofficial ones instead. Which means there might not be any records.

Protestant preachers weren't affected by this situation as much. They didn't have a connection with the nobility. They weren't seen as a threat to the new republic.

So Protestant records should exist during this time period.

If you can't find anything online, you might need to come see them in person.

And of course, they might have been damaged or destroyed during the past wars or accidental fire.

Good luck with your research!
