Looking for birth record for Charles F. Barber, information said that his father was U.S. citizen at his birth in Alsace-Lorraine, Germany,. Birth date 06/21/1886 or 1887. How can I find a copy of his birth?

Hi Grace,

To find his records, we would have to look through every village and town in Alsace (and possibly Lorraine) until we hit it.

That's a few hundred villages and towns. All the records are handwritten and not neatly I might add, so you can't just whip through them quickly.

You're looking at a lot of time unless you can narrow it down some more. Even just a general area or a hint of a location can cut down on the number of hours needed.

I can't say that I've run into many Barbers here in Alsace. Not to say that it couldn't be a misspelling. Or he was of French descent and living in the area. It's not really a Germanic name.
