My grandfathers father,s father was a Henry or Heinrich Bartels. My grandfather once told me that it’s important to know our people came from City of Strasboug Alsace -Lorraine. We have a famous artist in the family, however all formal information written about Hans Von Bartels is all copied from a single source which is completely wrong. Hans was the brother of my grandfathers father and at that point the family lived in Bremen/ Bremerhaven, Hans eventually lived in Holland.
I would like to learn of our Prussian descent , and more information about Hans. I wish to correct the history of my Great Grand Uncle Hans. There are things I know about some paintings of his that are not known by the public. It is these paintings in which I can find images of some family members, which has passioned me to find my roots of my fathers side of our family. Any help would be appreciated.
My fathers grandparents or some family members immigrated to the USA around the late 1800s. Many settled in New York but some came to California , in particular San Diego and San Francisco. I was born and raised in San Francisco. My grandfather was Henry Christian Bartels. I believe his father was Christian Henry Bartels, and his father was Henry ( Heinrich) Bartels. My grandfathers mother was widowed and remarried a few times , my grandfather had 11 siblings, not all Bartels.
I find myself drawn to the culture and unique history of Alsace Lorraine . I hope I haven’t overshared.
