Belfort and Franche Comte
by: Suzele

Hi Lynette,

Interesting because your last name is so Germanic (and a name we find in Alsace often).

But the names you listed are more common outside of Alsace.

Belfort is part of Territoire de Belfort and in the Franche Comte region (which is next door to Alsace).

You'll have more luck looking in those areas.

And you may find some names in the part of Alsace near Belfort too.

Good luck with your searching,
Suzele

I’ve hit a brick wall
by: Kristine Freund

I’m looking for a way to research my family from St. Louis Alsace France. My 2 great grandfather lived here, but I can’t find his father!

Name: Frederic Freund, born 1827. I know that he died prior to 1919, and that he married a German lady named Marie Therese Hess. Their children, Joseph, and Alphonse Frederic Freund were born, and grew up in St Louis, Alsace France before moving to the US in the late 1885ish

I’ve been trying to track down the family prior to Frederic for several years......HELP!!!!!

Hi Kristine

Send me an email on the website and we can see if I can help you.

I'll need to know more about your situation.

This sort of help is paid help of course.

Otherwise, maybe someone will find your comment and have some info some day.

Good luck!
Suzele
