A Short History of Alsace

The history of Alsace is kind of long...

But it's really interesting!

Here is the very condensed version. I wrote it so that you can skip around and go to the parts that interest you without having to read all of it.

Village of Kaysersberg in Alsace next to medieval walls and river

I tried to keep it as short as possible...

But let's face it, a lot happened in Alsace!

I did the research at first for myself, because I couldn't find anything that did a good job of explaining the "story" of Alsace.

*Everything that I've written here came from books written by historians and other experts.

Or even the story of some specific part of Alsace.

And forget about finding it in English!

My goal here is to help you experience what it was like here for the people of Alsace during everything from being Roman citizens all the way to having to relearn French again after World War Two (from 1870 to 1945, they went from French to German to French to German to French).

I've divided each distinct part of Alsace's history into separate sections to make it easier for you to find what you're looking for.

This is a work in progress...

So I'll be expanding it and adding links in blue all along that give you more information (so a link in blue named "Napoleon" will take you to a page with more information about Napoleon).

And now...Alsatian History...the very condensed version!
