Relationship of three LUDWIG families

by Linda Ludwig Irish
(South Bend, IN USA)

Three LUDWIG families moved to northern Indiana living near each other in the 1860s. One is mine, Louis LUDWIG, born 1833 in Dachwig and immigrated 1856 to Mishawaka, Indiana.

Second is Joseph LUDWIG born 1835 in Alsace and immigrated around 1860 to Elkhart, Indiana. Third is Augustus LUDWIG born 1832 in Alsace and immigrated around 1860 also to Elkhart, Indiana.

I met a man about 20 years ago who could be a twin to my brother. His family is the Joseph LUDWIG so I feel there must be a connection with Joseph and Louis, I just don't know where.

How can I find the Alsace cities Joseph and Augustus came from? And how do I match two families that essentially came from two very different regions?

Thank you,
Linda Ludwig Irish

How to Find Relatives When You Have Very Little Data
by: Suzele

Hi Linda,

Sorry I couldn't answer earlier. It's the time of year when I'm busy with Alsace tours!

There's only one way to find what you are looking for : )

The hard way, looking through badly written old French/German language records. If you have no idea where, it could take longer. If you have some clues, it will probably still take awhile, but maybe not quite so much time.

I do this sort of thing in the winter when I have some free time. I actually like doing it, but it's definitely an acquired skill. And you really have to enjoy it to be good at it.

Hope it helps : )
