If I have ancestors from my mom's dad's side (Kieffer) that are from Germany (1616-1663) then from (1425-1500) some were from France.

What does that make me? My grandfather's last name Kieffer came from my 10th great grandmother because my 10th great grandfather's last name is Le Tonnellier.

What is a French and German girl? My 6th great grandfather came on a ship carrying Palatinat passengers from Germany.

Am I German and French or?

Hi Crystal,

If you were born in the US to US born parents, you are American ; )

The ancestors you mentioned are primarily Germanic, if they lived in Alsace. From the 1400s to 1871, Germany didn't exist. There was a French kingdom at that time, but Alsace was not very French from the 1400s to the 1600s.

Tonnelier is the French word for Kieffer. Your family's original name is Kieffer, so they are Germanic.

Hope it helps,
Suzele
