Fleckenstein Family

was the Fleckenstein castle considered in Germany or France between 1795 and 1860? Is there a Fleckenstein genealogy published showing French origins? I have a relative, Peter Fleckenstein, who emigrated to the US in 1854. He may have been born in Miltenberger Landkreis. His father was Adam Fleckenstein (1795-1850) and all I know about his was that he was supposedly from Germany. I am trying to see if there is a French connection.

Fleckenstein is Alsatian and Alsace was part of France from 1795 to 1860. But Alsace was far from French in culture. Still is to a certain extent. Quite different from the other parts of France.

It wouldn't have been a problem for your relatives to live just across the border in Germany.

People still do it nowadays.

Good luck!
