Where do I find birth records for the date January 29, 1845. Is there one clearing house for the region?

This is not the problem...

Hi Anne,

Your problem is not a question of having the records all in one place.

Your problem is that all the records are organized according to village. And there are thousands of villages in Alsace.

And they are of course all handwritten, badly handwritten in either French or German depending on the date of course.

1845 should be in French.

Even if someone gives me a name and a date, without a village or town name (or a slight narrowing down to at least a part of the region), you're looking at thousands of thousands of hours of looking through badly handwritten French records.
