Rolly Gassman Wines in Rorschwihr Alsace

by Suzele
(Alsace)

I made a stop at Rolly Gassman's cave aux vins on the recommendation of a number of people.

You'll need to be able to communicate in French or German to do any chatting at Rolly Gassman...

But the wines speak for themselves and the wine list is easy enough to read in any language.

Rolly Gassman does wine tasting the traditional way with a wine list. You tell them what you would like to taste and they will bring it out...

I should mention that they have an incredible selection of wine available for tasting...

And you'll have the chance to taste the different grapes from different vineyard areas (lieux-dits) and different years...

We were able to taste every grape variety grown in Alsace, including late harvest and noble rot wines...

Some over ten years old...

Of course you're expected to buy some wine, but after a tasting like this, you'll want to buy a case or two!

Madame Gassman was there serving us wine while we asked all sorts of questions in French (although she speaks German and Alsatian if you prefer)...

Rolly Gassman is located next to the village church and is very easy to find.

If you're coming from the south, it's the next village on the Alsace Wine Road after Bergheim. From the north, it's the next village after Saint-Hippolyte.

If you're hungry or you get there around lunch time when the wine tasting room is closed, there's a great little restaurant just across the street.

Excellent French and Alsatian food!

Enjoy,
Suzele
