My family roots in Alsace : Solomon Runk

by Debby Hesterberg
(Fort Gratiot, MI USA)

I am seeking the village from where my father's family came.

My dad was born in Susanental, Russia along the Volga in 1900, but I think it was his grandparents who came from this area and migrated to Russia around the Nepoleonic Wars or before that time.

His dad was Solomon Runk. I have no information about the village. So I guess I will start with this site.

Are we related?
by: Sheri Lee

My grandmother's name was Katherine Runk and she was born in Susanenthal, Russia in the late 1800s. My mother told me that my grandmother was part French. My grandparents immigrated to the US in 1912 but none of my grandmother's family came with her. She had a twin sister that she never heard from again.

Runk's family
by: Eduard Rung

I am Eduard Rung from Kazan (Russia). My granfather was Alexander Rung (Runk) who was born in Saratov, but his parents came from Sasannenthal. Yes, my granfather told me that his ancestor was French, and as far as I know he was Peter Runk (borned in 1792), the soldier of the Napoleon's Grand army and prisoner of war. My granfather knew that his uncle has emigrated from Russia to USA before the First World War.

Now I am Professor of History at Kazan Federal University.
