Gites in Alsace

by Bill
(UK)

In October are Gites as plentiful as they are in the summer season.

We are concerned that many might close at the end of the season, or are all Gites open year round?

Thanks,

Finding Vacation Apartments in Alsace
by: Suzele

Hi Bill,

Well...most gites or vacation rental apartments are individually owned by people with jobs or other businesses.

They're just making use of some space that they have either through inheritance or because they have a large property or maybe they have decided to invest in rental property with some extra money.

Some hotels and bed and breakfasts have gites too.

So yes there are vacation rental apartments to rent during the fall, winter and spring.

Perhaps not all of them are available all year round because the owners are out of town or busy but generally speaking, you'll find something somewhere.

The only way to really find out is to contact the owners or rental managers and see.

Each gite owner will have his or her own rules and schedule.

And if you're looking to save money, you'll find the less expensive vacation rentals are in the smaller lesser known villages.

So a gite in a beautiful village that just happens to not be in a guide book may be quite the bargain...

Of course, the more amenities in the gite, the higher the price but you will always pay a premium for touristy areas.

Happy Gite Hunting!
