Looking for the Last Name Gattie. All i have is a name Francis Anthony Gattie from 1780-1874 from France. No idea where to even start.

Hi Jack,

That's really bad news...
It's already not very good news if someone has narrowed down to a region in France, Alsace for example, but we're still talking about 1000s of hours. And Alsace is a tiny region.

So you can begin to see just how much time it could take to find out where your ancestor is from.

The good news is that I can almost guarantee that Gattie is not an Alsatian name. It's entirely possibly that your family moved to Alsace at some point, but it's less likely.
